BEARKATS EARN GULF COAST EAST TITLE
Sam Houston clinched the Gulf Coast East title this past weekend taking 2 of 3 from LSC - Kingwood. Sam will take the GC - east title with an overall record of 15 wins and 1 losses, and a conference record of 13 wins and 5 losses. The Bearkats took all six weekend conference series, sweeping the opening series at home against Victoria College. The Bearkats will be going to McKinney, TX for the Gulf Coast regional May 10-13. Texas A&M will be representing the Gulf Coast South, Texas Tech and Baylor share the Gulf Coast North title and will be in McKinney to compete for the Golf Coast Regional title.
BEARKATS START HOT IN CONFERENCE
The Bearkats started the conference section of the season without flaw, winning all 3 games against gulf coast east foe Victoria. Jose Alvarado earned the first win of the weekend with a 9-6 win on Saturday. The second game was much more of a pitchers duel with Taylor Holt out dueling the Pirates to earn his first conference with in 2 - 0 fashion. Holt went the distance with 0 runs, 2 BBs, 3 Hits, and 14 Ks, earning him Conference pitcher of the week (GC-east). The third and final win of the weekend was in opposite fashion then saturday's shut out, with the Bearkats getting the better of Victoria 17 - 15. The Bearkats will play host to the Lone Star Kingwood Coyotes after a much needed break. LSC - Kingwood will travel to Huntsville March 23rd and match up with Sam Houston at noon at Holleman Field.
